Trang Nguyen

Southeast Asia Lead

Trang leads the Centre’s Southeast Asia team, contributing to our regional strategy and engagement in the region. The team works with stakeholders in Australia and Southeast Asia to scale up climate ambition across areas including promoting the transition to a low carbon economy, climate finance and the energy transition.

Trang is also a non-executive Director for Asian Australians for Climate Solutions.

Trang came to Climateworks from the Victorian Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions, where she worked on the planning and review of fiscal policies for the state’s resources sector. 

Before moving to Australia, Trang spent six years working for the UK government. Her work covered a range of climate adaptation and mitigation programs including energy transition, green finance, sustainable infrastructure and biodiversity. She also led the business planning, design and implementation of the UK government’s economic and development strategy in Vietnam and worked closely with colleagues across Southeast Asia and across government ministries in the UK to secure funding and partnership in climate action in the lead up to COP26. 

Trang has also worked in various roles in auditing, compliance and programme management for KPMG, ANZ Bank and the German Government’s development organization (GIZ).

Trang has a Masters in Banking and Finance from the University of Nottingham, UK,  awarded with the university’s Business School and ASEAN scholarships. She also attended Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government’s Executive Education on Leading Green Growth.
