Laura Simes
Based in Climateworks’ Perth office, Laura assisted Climateworks’ system teams to engage effectively with Western Australian stakeholders and lead our work on industry decarbonisation policy across Australia. This included analysing and understanding government priorities, identifying and leveraging opportunities in line with organisational objectives, and ensuring research and advice was relevant to state stakeholders.
Previously, Laura worked on clean energy and national policy for the Western Australian State Government at Energy Policy WA, where her focus was on emissions and renewables. Laura also practised as a lawyer and worked for an NGO in intellectual property law and policy before moving into the field of climate change, her real passion. In climate change, she has worked in policy, regulatory and in-house lawyer roles at both federal and state levels of government, and in an advice and advocacy role for the Western Australian Local Government Association.
Laura holds a Graduate Certificate in Energy and Carbon Studies from Murdoch University. She also holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the Australian National University.
