Climateworks Centre welcomes the opportunity to put forward our proposals on road user charging and renewable energy infrastructure planning and permitting to the Economic Reform Roundtable.
These are two parts of a wider program of our work that aims to improve productivity, build economic resilience and strengthen budget sustainability.
In previous engagements with the Treasury, we have provided our research and advice on climate-aligned indices in the Your Future Your Super performance test.
Our buildings data can inform policy measures to increase productivity, through reduced emissions and avoided energy grid infrastructure costs.
Climateworks recommends:
- A national road user charge scheme that prices externalities of driving and fuels to create a new funding stream that supports sustainable, low-emissions transport choices
- A regional approach to planning and assessment for energy infrastructure to better integrate environmental, social and economic factors early in the process.
