Rich in natural resources and particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, Australia has everything to gain from a swift transition to net zero.
Climateworks has been driving action on climate in Australia for over a decade. Research from the UN shows emissions must halve this decade, and again the next, to limit global temperature rise to well below 2 degrees Celsius. This requires a fivefold increase in action. We’re scaling our work across seven critical systems in the Australian economy to meet this challenge.
Australia has vast renewable energy and mineral resources that are essential for the world to reach net zero. Governments, businesses and communities getting behind the shift to a net zero economy will bolster the Australian economy – and enable the world to decarbonise at the rate needed to mitigate climate change. The Australian Country team ensures Climateworks is making impact where it matters, and acts as a link for partners and organisations to make best use of our work.
Climateworks’ expertise and analysis on net zero pathways has created momentum to net zero emissions by 2050. Our work has helped net zero by 2050 become the norm, and supported key decision makers to understand how to embrace the opportunities and solutions available.
