Climateworks Centre bridges research and action, to achieve the system-level transitions required to reach net zero emissions across Australia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
We act as trusted advisers, influencing decision-makers with the power to reduce emissions at scale. Co-founded by the Myer Foundation and Monash University in 2009, Climateworks works within the Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) at Monash University, a non-profit organisation. For the past decade we have played a unique role in Australia’s transition towards a net zero future.
We have led thinking on decarbonisation for our region since 2009. Find out more about our approach:
Our mission
The Climateworks mission is to accelerate action to achieve net zero emissions within Australia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, aligned with the global goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees.
After more than ten years working with influential sectors to shift to low or zero-emissions solutions, Climateworks entered the ‘transformational decade’ with an understanding that, to achieve our mission, we needed to scale up – increasing our ambition and impact. To meet this challenge, we are growing our team across seven key systems.
The sustainable development goals
As part of MSDI, we are committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were established to address some of the most significant challenges facing our world today. Our overarching goal is SDG number 13 – climate action, but we believe a transition to net zero aligns with, and supports, all 17 goals. A transition that considers the social, economic and environmental impacts and opportunities.
