Fifteen climate and energy leaders from Indonesia and Vietnam have converged on Melbourne for the Southeast Asia Just Energy Transition Fellowship.

The Fellows are hosted by Climateworks Centre as part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Australia Awards Fellowships.

The immersive two-week program includes opportunities for knowledge exchange, networking and capacity building.

The aim is to accelerate a timely, orderly and just energy transition in Southeast Asia by fostering a regional network of representatives from key government authorities, planning agencies, trade unions, think tanks and research organisations.

Field trips, facilitated discussions, knowledge exchange and sessions with experts

Climateworks staff will facilitate discussions on how to accelerate a just energy transition while getting on track with net-zero targets

These discussions will follow on from each day’s workshops and training, which will be delivered by experts from:

Fellows will also embark on excursions to Geelong and the Latrobe Valley to visit mining sites, decommissioned coal plants, battery and renewable energy projects.

The field trips will allow the Fellows to learn more about regional economic transition – and how government, industry and community partnerships can drive innovation that supports the transition.
